VAT free purchase within the EU

Companies with an EU VAT number (excluding Slovakia) may purchase goods or services at net prices, provided they meet the legal requirements.

A community (EU) VAT number in Hungary consists of the prefix HU followed by the first 8 digits of the tax number. Having a valid EU VAT number activates the destination-country taxation principle under EU directive, whereby VAT is paid by the purchaser in cross-border transactions.

Please note that having a Hungarian tax number does not automatically mean it is registered as an EU VAT number. Please verify it in the VIES system.

A community VAT number must be requested from the tax authority of the relevant country – the registration is free of charge. For details, consult your accountant.

The first step is to verify the validity of the EU VAT number, as VAT-free invoicing is only possible with a valid registered number.

Check your EU VAT number in the VIES system

We do not accept VAT numbers that appear valid in VIES but have incomplete data. Please ensure that all required information is visible in the VIES system.

A further condition of purchase is that delivery to the buyer's registered business address must be verifiable by a third party (courier or carrier). For compliance reasons, only courier delivery is available – personal collection is not possible.

For smooth processing, please provide accurate company details when registering, and use your company's registered or operating address as the delivery address.
