This article is specifically about the FLEXi SP3 alarm panel: it shows how the SP3 hardware versions are encoded, and which firmware versions can be used with each hardware version.
The firmware file name
The firmware file name has the following structure:
SP3_yxxz_0123.fw
SP3 indicates the alarm panel model, and the four-digit number at the end of the file name is the current firmware version.
This article focuses mainly on the meaning of the four middle characters, i.e. yxxz. An actual firmware looks like this, for example:
SP3_6e74_0123.fw
The first character (y): the hardware version
The first character — the number 6 in our example — indicates the modem version built into the alarm panel. Here, 6 means the version compatible with Ethernet + 4G mobile network communication.
This character cannot be changed during a firmware update: you must always choose firmware for the same hardware version that is currently on the device. You cannot update to firmware for a different hardware version — the device will indicate if you have chosen the wrong firmware.
| Number | Hardware version |
|---|---|
| 1 | Wi-Fi + 4G |
| 2 | Wi-Fi |
| 3 | LAN, LAN + Wi-Fi |
| 4 | Not used |
| 5 | Wi-Fi + 2G |
| 6 | LAN + 4G |
The last character (z): the wireless receiver
The last of the four characters — the number 4 in our example — determines the type of wireless receiver that is compatible with, and can be used with, the system. Unlike the hardware version, this character can be changed, so in some cases a different value may be needed when updating the device firmware.
For example, 4 supports the RF-LORA, MAXIMUM (M4) and RF-S8 (Heyi detectors) receivers. The list below shows which wireless receiver version each value belongs to:
| Number | Wireless receiver | Zones |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | RF-SH (discontinued) | 32 |
| 1 | Paradox RTX3 | 32 |
| 2 | Honeywell (not used in Europe, 345 MHz) | 64 |
| 3 | Not used | — |
| 4 | RF-LORA, MAXIMUM (M4) or RF-S8 | 64 |
The supported number of zones also depends on this character: version 4 (RF-LORA, MAXIMUM, RF-S8) handles 64 zones, while versions 0 (RF-SH) and 1 (Paradox RTX3) handle 32.
