APN settings – list of European mobile operators

Updated: November 2026

Without an APN, a SIM-card communicator cannot connect to the internet. Here you will find the known APNs of European mobile operators – with the different values for IoT / M2M cards marked separately – and where to enter them.

What is an APN, and why do you need it?

The APN (Access Point Name) is the mobile operator's access point for data connections. A SIM-card Trikdis communicator (G16, G16T, GT, GET, GV17 …) uses it to connect to the internet – to the monitoring station receiver and to the Protegus 2 app. With most cards a phone sets it up automatically, but in the communicator you have to enter it yourself. With a wrong or missing APN the device registers on the mobile network but has no data connection: the TROUBLE LED indicates a fault and no events are sent.

The internet APN works on many European networks, but not everywhere – and almost never with IoT / M2M cards. The reliable solution is the operator's own value: these are collected here.

Where do you enter it?

  • TrikdisConfig software → SIM card page → APN field; if the operator requires it, also fill in the Login and Password fields. After writing (Write [F5]) the device restarts. The easiest check is the DATA LED: it is lit when there is a message in the buffer waiting to be sent. If it goes off after an event or test report, the message has been sent and the data connection works; if the NETWORK LED is green but the DATA LED stays lit, the device is registered on the mobile network but has no internet connection – typically the APN is wrong.
  • By SMS, if the device is already installed: 123456 CONNECT APN=internet, and if needed 123456 CONNECT USER=username and 123456 CONNECT PASS=password (replace 123456 with the device's administrator code).
  • Near a national border, the Forbid connection when roaming detected option prevents the device from registering on the neighbouring country's network; setting the preferred operator (MCC / MNC) also helps to lock the operator.

An IoT / M2M card needs a different APN. For machine-to-machine (IoT, M2M, “telematics”) data cards, operators usually provide an APN different from the consumer one, often with its own username and password. Such a card will not connect with the consumer APN – this is the most common reason why “no data goes out” with a new SIM. In the table, IoT / M2M rows are marked in bold; if there is no such data for your card, ask your operator for it.

  • Hungary – Yettel: customer-specific (Corporate APN)
  • Hungary – Telekom: customername.mt.iot.co.hu / customername.mt.iot.gr.hu
  • Hungary – One (ex-Vodafone): telematics.net / telemetria.net
  • Slovakia – O2: private APN

Known APNs by country

The United Kingdom and the Netherlands come first, followed by the other countries in alphabetical order; IoT / M2M rows are in bold.

* Data not taken from the operator's own website – check with the operator before use.

If your operator is not on the list

  • Ask your operator's customer service, or look for the “APN settings” page on its website – for an IoT / M2M card, it is also stated in the contract or in the letter that came with the card.
  • Put the SIM into a phone: the mobile data settings (access points) show which APN it works with.
  • Try the value internet – it is accepted on many networks, but not on all of them.

Troubleshooting

  • TROUBLE LED 3 blinks – programming error: no APN entered.
  • TROUBLE LED 5 blinks – the device is on the mobile network but cannot connect to the data network: wrong APN, missing username / password, or no active data service on the card.
  • NETWORK LED green, but the DATA LED stays lit – the device is registered on the mobile network, but the data connection does not work: the DATA LED indicates that there is a message in the buffer waiting to be sent. Check the APN, the username / password and the card's data service.
  • The DATA LED goes off – the message has been sent and the internet connection is fine; if events still do not arrive, check the receiver / Protegus settings.
  • Operators change things from time to time: if an APN listed here no longer works, let us know on the contact page and we will update the list.
